Sensation & Perception

Go to http://www.exploratorium.edu/exhibits/f_exhibits.html and explore three different kinds of illusions. Most of these exhibits are electronic versions from the museum floor, a few are unique.
1.) Which of the many types of illusions do you find the most intersting?
2.) Which specfic illusion was the most interesting and why?
3.) After exploring this page do you think seeing is believing?

  1. 1. I find the Mona illusion, Changing Illusions, and the Postcard Illusions the most interesting.
    2. I thought the Mona Illusion was the most interesting because they look the same when they are upside down, but if it turn them back right-side-up, they look quite different. It was just weird. I even turned my laptop upside down to see if that's really what they looked like.
    3. I do think seeing is believing. Everything we see, we believe, even if it's just an illusion. We still believe it.

  2. 1. I find the Fading Dot illusion, Changing illusions, and the Depth Spinner illusions the most interesting.
    2. I thought that the Depth Spinner was the most interesting because it looks either like you're falling or that the hole is coming towards you.
    3. I do think that seeing is believing. If we see something we usually believe that it's true, even if it is just an illusion.

  3. 1. I found Bird in a Cage, Depth Spinner, Post Card Illusions and Shimmer to be most interesting.
2.I though that the Bird in a Cage was most interesting to me. One reason is that I kinda saw the image becomming 3-D. Next when I started shifting my eye the image moved and the color of the image began to change. Then when I focused on the other parrot, both images came together and i guessed they kissed when i looked in the cage. It was so cool!!! lol
    3. To be honest, I think that seeing is believing even if it is an illusion. Without looking at the Bird in Cage illusion, I would not believe that the birds could of changed color in the cage or even come together.

    1. I found the cafe wall brick illusion, and the depth spinner to be the most interesting.
2.I think the cafe wall was the most interesting because the illusion only worked when the bars were a certain shade of grey, and when the bricks were in a certain position.
3.I do think that seeing is believing because i only believe something if i see it.

  5. 1. I thought the Depth Spinner and the fading dot was the most interesting.
    2. i think the depth spinner was the most interesting, because when yu look at the wall after you stare at it the wall is waving.
    3. i think seeing is believeing, because sometimes you have to just see things to believe it. and when your seeing it, there should be no reason not to believe it.

  6. 1. i thought that the bird in the cage, the mona, and the fading dot were the most interesting.
    2. i think that the mona one was the most interesting because there were so many differences i didnt notice when they were upside down.
    3. i think that believing is seeing. because i think instead of believing something because you see it, you see things because you believe you see them. if that makes any sense at all.

  9. 1.) I liked the post card illusions and the depth spinner the most.
2.) I liked the post card illusions the most, because at first glance you would never notice the things that it points out for you to do.
3.)Seeing is believing, because a lot of people say well i have to see it to believe it. And once you see it, there's no reason for you not to believe it.

  10. 1) i found the mona illusion, changing illusion and post card illusions to be most interesting
2)the mona illusion, cause i am just surprise how much you can do by just drawing something in a special/different way to make people believe and recognizes as NORMAL. i also love art though.
3)i think you always just see what you WANT to see what means that our thinking influenced the things we are 'seeing'. and yea maybe you can call it BELIEVING. like some people just see what they want to see ! cause they believe in it and it's more that some poeple are close- minded and don't actually observe a situation to see the facts.. NO 1 they are putting too much emotions in it what makes them just see what they want to see.

  11. 1) i thought the temple illusion was really interesting.
2)i found the mona lisa illusion to be the most interesting, because it show how little we really pay attention. all i noticed was that she was smiling i did not recognize it was shaded completely different.
    4) i dont feel that seeing is truely believing, i guess that but i guess it also can be because we really just see what we want to believe

  12. 1. I didn't really like any of them. But if I had to choose, I guess I liked the making the dots spin.
    2. None of them, they bored me for the most part. Some of them I had already seen before.
    3. Yea i guess. Because somethings I was unsure about until doing a double, sometimes triple, take.

2)none really, because i have seen most of them:(
3)yes, i do think that seeing is believing because most of the time we just see what we want to.. or what we expect to be there..

  14. 1.) The American Flag was the most interesting to me.
2.) The American Flag, it is crazy to me that colors so different can show up normal on white paper after you look at it for awhile.
3.) Yes, in these cases I think seeing is believing because nothing is hidden from you in the pictures you just have to look at things in a different way to see the whole thing.

  15. 1.) I thought that the Fading dot was the most interesting one to me.
2.) The Fading dot was the coolest thing ever. If you really do look at the dot for a few seconds, the dot appears to be disappearing. The bird in the cage trick didn't work for me, I didnt see anything.
3.)Yes, I do think seeing is believing. To a point, seeing something in the flesh makes you believe things even more and can make your wildest dreams come true.

  16. 1) I really found the bird in the cage illusion weird. The Brick one was kind of interesting as well. one that puzzled me was the fading dot.
    2) The Fading dot one worked really well for me. The brick one just kind of confused me.
    3) Sometimes I think seeing is believing. But, also, when it comes to the bird in the cage illusion, seeing isn't always believing. I saw a "bird" that wasn't actually there.

  17. 1)I think bird in a cage was the most interesting & post card exhibits!
    2) Mona illusion because they both look the same up side down but there really not!
3)Yes,I do. Because sometimes we can just see or believe what we want to..

  18. 1. The spinning and cafe wall.
2.The Cafe Wall was the coolest one.
    3. Not necesarily because these were optical allusion and the allusion that something is moving and it really isnt.

  19. 1. The Fading Dot was the most interesting one to me.
2.Mix & Match was the coolest one, because i couldnt match it for nothing :)
3.Not really. All of them wore optical allusions. But in same time maybe just becasue we know what they really are. And if we see it by maybe accident we might just believe in it? So idk :)

  20. I think the fading dot, bird in a cage and dept spinner were the most interesting.
2.Mix and match was one of the neat ones beacause I wasnt so good at matching.
3.Not really because these were optical illustions and the allusion is that you think its moving but its really not.

  21. i like the mona the best although if i paid attention to it long enough i may have seen the difference
the mix and match was fun but i thought it was a game so it got boring

  22. 1)I like the illusions on the website were you can have interaction with the illusion
2)My favorite illusion is the depth spinner
3)I don't think seeing is believing because no one ever sees everything.

  23. 1.)The Depth Spinner
2.)the palm spinner because i couldnt understand why my hand was spinning the opposite direction
3.)Only with somethings not everything because there will always be something you wont comprehend
