Society and Race

For the blog this, I would like you to consider the role of race in society. We live in a world filled with and many times divided by color. The problem is not only an American one, there are social class differences in India based on skin color. There are social class differences in Africa based on the darkness or lightness on one’s skin. From one side of the globe to the other, the variations in skin color cause conflict, war, division, and pain. If color is simply a matter of how much pigment someone has in their skin, why does it cause so much division and strife in the world? Why do we view someone as inferior based on the color of their skin? How can we move forward as a community or state or nation, if we divide on such small and pointless differences? I would be very interested to hear your thoughts on the issue.

  1. I dont think that it matters if people are divided by that with what the world is going through at this time then its pointless to bother with. color is your appearance nothing more and judging someone on that is wrong no matter which way you take it

  2. I think people judge the color of your skin because everyone else does. so you think its ok to do. Its not the outside that matters, its the inside. I think it is pointless to divide the nation or community just on the color of your skin. Everyone should be treated equal.

  3. i feel that judging people by the color of their skin is pointless. i mean why do it? just because someone is a differnt race than you doesnt make them a worse person than you. i feel everyone deserves to be treated equal no matter their skin color. i just hope that one day we will all be equal and skin color wont matter.

  4. People judge you by the color of your skin or your race mostly because there is alway one or two things that your government or race did that makes other people look down on you. Like if one white person does something stupid other people assume all white people are stupid. And it kind a grows on with time and it's just becomes sorta "label" for all white people. I really don't understand why that happens like that, it just simply does in my opinion. Also i think todays media have a great effect on it too.

  5. there's always going to be that one group that feels that they are superior to other groups. i'm not sure why this is, other than that's just the way history has gone. people are people regardless of skin color or background and i will never understand why there is such an issue with race.

  6. I think that judging someone based of color is insane. Just because someone is a different color doesn't make them less of a person than you are. People are afraid of different so they tend to look down on people who look or act different than them. Color doesn't make a person who they are and if people could get past looks then our nations and cities would be able to thrive. There are so many more things that our leads and all people need to worry about and stop focusing on the little thing that don't mean anything. It is what is inside that counts not outside, to bad not everyone feels that way.

  7. I think the reason people judge people based on their skin color is because they want to feel in power or more important than that of the "other" person.

I think that people use color as an excuse to gain power over another group of people. It has been this way for centuries and is wrong. People also view someone with another skin color diffrently because often they are taught to do so by their parents and their society. And we cannot move foarward as a nation if we stand divided. As it has been said before "A house divided against itself cannot stand" so if we continue to judge by skin color we will only detract from our nation.

  9. I really do not agree on judging someone because of their skin color. It's unfair to them because they didn't choose to be born into that race, so why act like they did? Just because they have more pigment in their skin, doesn't mean they are any less of a person than you or me. We need to be able to look beyond their skin color and see what the person is really like on the inside.

  10. i think that judging someone just based on their race or appearance is wrong. The color of someones skin says absolutely NOTHING about what kind of person they are. God made us all different, and its just something that we have to deal with. Society is made up of all kinds of different races, and ethnicities. dont judge. its wrong and pointless.its whats on the inside and what kind of person you are that matters.

  11. People are always, and most likely will always be judged by the color of their skin. I don't think that it is right, but I also don't think that it will change. How can we move forward? Take a positive approach, and make it grow. Spread it throughout the community, the district, the state, the nation, the world. But do I think that it will happen? I honest to God do not.

  12. I think there's always going to be one group that feels superior to another group. I think that people should not feel superior to other people because we all are supposed to be created and treated equally. I think one race will always be judged by the color of their skin though. I don't think it's fair, but I do think it's reality.

  13. i think people judge others on the color of their skin because they are different from themselves. another reason is from being taught from childhood. many peoples parents are racist and they teach thier children to think the same as them. it goes on for generations until they realize there is no reason to be that way.

  14. People judge others based on their skin color, hair color, eye color, height, religion, sexuality, etc. Most of the time it's due to ignorance or jealousy in my opinion. It's also passed down through generations.

  15. People judge others for many reasons. i think it is based on what the goverment did in the past to that race. I dont think it is right by any means. People are weak minded and will follow others if they are desperate and will come up with a reason to make it ok.

  16. I don't think that it is right to judge others based on their race. I personally never even look at someone's skin color when I meet them. But just because this is the way I am and how I feel does not mean that others do the same. There are a lot of people who still seperate us by the color that is portrayed on our bodies. It is from the older generation teaching their young ones these immature and stupid ideas and beliefs. It is also from others not wanting to let go of the past. What happened, happened years ago and we truly need to move on from this horrible way of thinking. But once again it is not about how I think because I know how I feel and how I will someday teach my kids, but how others feel and will teach. I think that it will be hundreds of more years before judgements based on race will possibly be gone. It is unfortunate but it is the truth and I just wish that others could see beyond the surface.

  17. Dividing people by the color of their skin is pointless.I see this in our own school you dont see many whites hanging out with blacks.i know plenty of racist people in this school. ITS JUST SO STUPID.

  18. i think we should stop only talking about worldwide equality when we don't even actually mean it. everyone tries to point out how much better our world is now, compared to back in the days.. well personally i really think that no matter how someone looks like he or she should be treated equally. And i just wish people would treat others only the way they want to be treated. But will that ever happen? i doubt it. But we should at least keep trying and not judge people but looking at their skin color. svenja

  19. I really don't understand why the color of our skin is such a color barrier in terms of getting along. I understand that based on color we sometimes develop different habits and maybe even cultures, but this is no reason to prejudge&/or discriminate against one another. I hate being judged based on the color of my skin, &I try not to judge people based on their's either, but I think we do it on accident. Its so natural for us to make comments/have thoughts like "oh they can dance because they're black" or "they gotta have money, cause they white." In one my other classes I made a joke that the teacher was ignoring my friend because she's black. Well another student turned around&said that that's "YA'LL" excuse for everything. I was very offended because I don't use my race for a excuse for anything. I refuse to be limited by the color of my skin. I'm not sure if we'll ever really get passed racism in America, or the rest of the world. We've been doing it so long, I think its implanted in our minds...maybe in time.

  20. I don't think that it is right to judge others based on their race. I never look at someone's skin color when I meet them or talk to them. every one is equal and i believe that everyone should respect one another. No one can help the way they were born. if they were raised a certain way, i feel like people should respect that. not judge them for the way they were brought up because most cant help that either.
